Some people state that Chiropractic is not medically necessary, but who is really stating that? Is it the medical community? Do you think you only need to go to the Chiropractor when you hurt? Then, why do you go to the dentist twice a year? Do your teeth hurt? No, many people go to the dentist to get a check up to prevent from having pain in their teeth. If they have a cavity, most of the time they don’t know it because it isn’t bad and isn’t causing pain. People still get it fixed because because they don’t want it to get bad enough to cause pain. Why is your spine any different? Why do people wait to maintain it, until after it starts to hurt?
Our body breaks down 80% before we start to feel pain. That means our body is only at a 20% function when a person decides to start Chiropractic care. Sometimes, the dysfunction has been going on for so long, there are degenerative changes that can’t be “fixed.” Sometimes those changes take a long time to become resolved.
Some people don’t want to go to the chiropractor because they say it hurts. A lot of times it hurts because they body has been out of alignment so long, the muscles and ligaments are used to being in the abnormal position. Just like when a person needs braces on their teeth, it hurts to realign those teeth. Are braces medically necessary? Not really, but people believe they are. 30 plus years ago, no dental insurance would cover braces and many still don’t. They consider realigning the teeth cosmetic, but many people still do it. Why is that? Why are people willing to suffer through the pain and the expense of braces but not chiropractic?
Most adjustments do not hurt. If a person is under proper maintenance, they will not have much if any discomfort when they get adjusted. Many say it feels good. However, like a therapeutic massage, if you have swollen muscles and tender points in your body, touching those will cause some discomfort. This needs to happen to get you better. Discomfort needs to happen when you are straightening teeth, why is your spine any different?
Your spine houses part of your central nervous system. Proper alignment keeps the neurological pathways working properly so your body works properly. What causes your body to become misaligned? DD Palmer, the founder of chiropractic, stated that the 3 components of a chiropractic vertebral subluxation is structural, chemical or mental. Structural could be anything from a slip and fall to twisting wrong when you are picking something up. Chemical is environmental toxins and nutrition. Mental is your mental, emotional state. With my extensive training, I can address all 3 components of a subluxation. Knowing that, what is stopping you from living life to its fullest?
